Over the past decade, XC mountain bike racing has been marked by constant progression, resulting in a sport that looks radically different than it did 10 years ago. At the pro level especially, the pace is faster, the terrain is far more technical, and the competition more intense than ever.

Modern XC bikes are drastically different machines than those raced in the sport’s formative years. Today’s athletes demand more. Gone are the days of long dirt road climbs and wide-open descents. The XC tracks of the new era include terrain that not long ago was more suited to DH races. White-knuckle drops, fierce rock gardens, diabolical roots and ruts. The climbs are shorter, steeper and rougher. The racing is harder, none more so than the Absa Cape Epic.

The all-new Anthem Advanced 29 was built for this. It’s the latest evolution of a bike that has helped push the sport forward since 2005.

Built around an ultra-light, ultra-efficient composite frame featuring FlexPoint Pro Suspension, this next-generation Anthem is lighter, more efficient, and engineered for maximum control when it’s needed most.

The Giant Anthem Advanced 29 is Pure XC Speed.

ULTRA-EFFICIENT

Advanced composite frameset is lighter than previous generation. The bottom bracket area is stiffer for faster acceleration, and a steeper seat tube puts the rider in an efficient climbing position.

29ER STABILITY AND SPEED

Frame geometry and suspension are optimized for fast and stable 29-inch wheels. A longer reach and modified cockpit including a 35mm composite handlebar and alloy stem further boost balance and stability on XC terrain.

SUPERIOR CONTROL

FlexPoint Pro suspension delivers 100mm of smooth, active rear travel. The frameset features modern XC geometry including a slacker 67.5-degree head tube and 110mm suspension fork for technical descents.

‘Perfectly balanced’ is how I would describe the Anthem’s performance during this year’s Cape Epic. Negotiating the insane gradients of Fanti’s Pass to the brutal ruggedness of the Witzenberg Valley to the flowing trails above Wellington, the Anthem’s geometry paired with its FlexPoint Pro suspension put Jarryd and me in absolute control. If I had to isolate my favourite element of the Anthem it would be its climbing performance across varied surfaces – that thing can climb no matter what you throw at it!
