Absa Foreword
2023 Absa Cape Epic
Absa Group
Limited Foreword
The main human characteristics that often emerge from the Absa Cape Epic, are resilience, endurance and teamwork. As I write this, I reflect that for the past two years, the Absa Cape Epic was truly a testimony for these characteristics as the world overcame the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 2023 Absa Cape Epic will see us return to a competition that is more familiar and more focused and determined to bring the global community of mountain bikers and fans together once again under the African sun. At Absa, it is our deliberate intent to move closer to our customers and colleagues. When I think of this, I am emboldened in our quest to bring the sport of mountain biking and all the downstream economic potential and opportunities to a wider community of people, helping transform the sport and making it more accessible.
A little more than two years ago, we announced our commitment to growing the #SheUntamed initiative, a programme designed to improve women’s access to the sport of mountain biking. This is one of several initiatives created to drive transformation, diversity and inclusion and in the lead-up to the 2023 event, we are committing to not only have 20% of the Team Absa line-up be all-women riders that will participate in the Absa Cape Epic, but are also dedicating a session of the Epic Trippers to women riders.
Being a force for good in everything that we do is not just a strategic pillar for us, it is how we live out our purpose as an organisation.
Wishing you all a safe and fulfilling experience during the 2023 Absa Cape Epic and I look forward to welcoming you at the start, but more importantly, celebrating with you at the finish.
Stay safe.
