The curtains are closing on 2022, and what an incredible year it was for the Absa Cape Epic and the Epic Series.

In total, there were 39 race days, 2 470 iconic kilometres ridden, a staggering 58 050 metres climbed, 84 riders were elevated to Epic Legend status and the Absa Cape Epic Amabubesi Finisher Club swelled to 1 651 members in 2022. These are the measurable stats alone; what cannot be measured is the camaraderie, the memories, the life-altering moments, and the emotions that have been experienced in South Africa, Graubünden Switzerland, Croatia, Andorra and Australia.

As the world begins to close off another year, your next challenge is just beginning, and it will be immense. The 2023 event boasts a new route, new age group race categories, new sponsors and many new innovations dedicated to ensuring that your Absa Cape Epic experience is second to none and lives up to the reputation we’ve built over the past 18 years.

On the 19th of March 2023, when we return to Meerendal Wine Estate for the Prologue, the world’s eyes will be tuned in to witness the beginning of the 19th Absa Cape Epic. Though it is not Meerendal where your race begins, rather it is right here and right now.

I encourage you to enjoy the journey you’re undertaking, from training throughout the Festive period, to eventually travelling to the Western Cape to go toe-to-toe with the race in March. This preparation phase is guaranteed to challenge you physically, mentally and emotionally, but the hard yards done will ensure the rewards are reaped when you cross the finish line at Val de Vie Estate on the 26th of March.

I wish you well for your Festive Season. Make the hours count, trust and enjoy the process, and I look forward to seeing you at Meerendal on the 18th of March for Registration.

Train hard, and stay safe.
